The Berkeley.EDU Expeditionary Force (BEEF) was a sub-commitee of the ITAC , looking at the idea of creating a mail forwarding service which would allow campus users (faculty, staff, and students) to publish and use "user@Berkeley.EDU" mail addresses. These addresses would be shorter, easier to remember, and more strongly associated with the campus than the addresses most of the community is currently using. Mail would be forwarded to whereever the user actually receives mail (either uclink, socrates, or a departmental server). The recommendation is for an opt-in service--users will go to a web page to choose and activate a Berkeley.EDU address.

See The BEEF Report for the full list of recommendations.

BEEF has completed its work, and with the introduction of the new CalMail system, most of the team's recommendations have been implemented. Questions about CalMail should be directed to the CalMail team.
